Rec Fighting

Lux and Seabass square off at Hastings.

Recreational fighting, or rec, is a choreographed form of combat with real weapons in which combatants perform a prearranged routine.  Rec fighting is primarily used for education and entertainment.  It is the form of combat used in battle reenactments such as Hastings.

Since rec fighting is meant to educate, rec battles require a greater amount of authenticity in clothing, armor, and weapon standards.  We want to put on an accurate display of medieval life and warfare for the spectators at rec battles and reenactments.

Steel qualification
Not all rec fighters are allowed to use steel weapons in battles.  Rec fighters must be steel qualified in order to do so.  In order to be steel qualified, a fighter must participate in one battle with non-metal weapon and two training sessions, possess their own helmet, shield, weapon, gloves, tunic, and be approved by a steel qualifying officer.  More detailed rules for rec combat, including armor and weapons requirements, steel qualification, and battle participation can be found here.
